Chai Spiced Cake Doughnuts

Posted by Natalie Jean on

 Ingredients:

4 tablespoons butter

1/4 cup vegetable oil

1/3 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup brown sugar, packed

2 large eggs

1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1/4 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 Tsp Hart's Desire Chai Spice

3/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 2/3 cups All-Purpose Flour

1 cup milk

Instructions:

1. Preheat the oven to 425°F. Lightly grease two standard doughnut pans.

2. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, beat together the butter, vegetable oil, vanilla, and sugars until smooth.

3. Add the eggs, beating to combine.

4. Mix all other dry ingredients together with a whisk until all the same color.

5. Stir the dry ingredients into the butter mixture alternately with the milk, making sure everything is thoroughly combined.

6. Spoon the batter into the lightly greased doughnut pans, (for standard pans) filling the wells to about 1/4" shy of the rim. (or, use a zipper lock bag as a piping bag) For tall-sided pans, fill pans about 1/2” deep.

7. Bake the doughnuts for 10 minutes. Let them rest in the pan (on a wire rack) 5 to 7 minutes before turning them out of the pans onto a rack.

- For cinnamon doughnuts: shake warm doughnuts in a plastic bag with about 1/4 to 1/3 cup cinnamon-sugar.
- For powdered doughnuts, shake doughnuts in a plastic bag with about 1/2 cup (for best results) non-melting topping sugar, or (because that's what you've got) powdered sugar .
